I was caught speeding on a motorway. My average speed was 108 mph. The case is now referred to the Magistrates court. Can somebody share his /her experience with this type of case and any idea for how long I will be disqualified?

  1. you will get an instant ban a hefty fine usually up to about 1K ban is usually a minimum of 12 months unless you can provide mitigating circumstances i.e you would loose your job or would not be able to care for a disabled relative etc

  2. You should be banned,  you will be banned, you will be fined, good, think of others

  3. a year ban if your lucky - longer if the magistrate/judge is having a bad day.

    That kind of speed is disgusting and i hope the consequences of being disqualified affect your personal life cos its what speeding motorists deserve.

  4. Driving on the roads is a privilege.

    You abused it, put others in danger to which you have no right.

    Thank God we have laws to protect ourselves from people like you.

  5. .

    My experience is that an "average speed of 108mph" causes accidents.

    Did you do a pre-drive check?

    Did you have training to drive at high speed?

    Did you know that the speed limit in force on a motorway is 70mph and at 108mph your closing speed was approximately 60 feet per second to a car travelling at the maximum limit?

    Did you know that in an average car at 108mph it would take you approximately 700+ feet to stop including 0.7sec reaction time? At 70mph the overall stopping distance is approximately 300+ feet. The average length of a soccer pitch is 300 feet.

    WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? Or more likely, what weren't you thinking.

    I do hope you have just learnt something!

    Disqualification? A long time hopefully - Unless you've learnt from this experience and don't intend to be so foolish again...in which case, WELL DONE!

    Edit: could the person that gave me the thumbs down (and perhaps others that i see for reasonable answers) please explain, as your reasoning would be intriguing..

    Edit 2: Ha Ha Ha...3 thumbs down for correct information.

    This info on stopping distances goes up to 80mph. However 6.5 x 110mph = 715 feet

    4.5 x 70mph = 315 feet

    http://www.driveandstayalive.com/info%20...

    10mph = 14.6 feet/sec, therefore...

    70mph = 102 feet/sec

    108mph = 161 feet/sec

    Closing speed = 59 feet/sec

    Edit 3:

    Cafell - Don't see what you mean. If you are at the mercy of dozy drivers and centre lane hoggers, then SLOW DOWN to a speed at which the danger is minimised. YOU have the responsibility for minimising accidents as well as others that are not as "skilled" as you seem to think you are.

  6. 1 year, depending on any previous driving offences,

  7. As other posters have said, it depends on the current state of your license. I would suggest contacting a solicitor or legal advisor.

    Despite what others have posted, as someone who has legally driven at that speed on both the track and autobans etc, your real danger at that speed on a UK motorway would be other, dozy drivers and centre lane hoggers. They're probably much more a danger to you and themselves than you are to them, if you see what I mean.

  9. Lets see

    more than 30 over the speed limit= instant ban

    6 points on licence,dangerous driving,due care and attention,

    TW@!!

  10. get yourself over to  http://www.pepipoo.com/ fill in the nip wizard and post the details, people will be able to offer advice and assisitance of what todo......

  11. If you have a clean licence you will receive a 4 to 6 week ban plus a heavy fine, but if you already have points on your licence the ban is likely to be 6 to 12 months.

  12. You know whats coming mate

    You idiot.

    I hope after all this over, and even now, you have time to reflect on this, stop crying in your milk and accept your punishment, you do deserve it, you know you do.

    you could be told to go for re-test, and a severe fine will come your way, a ban certainly, prison maybe, having said that I cannot see anywhere in the posting that you feel bad about it.

    learn, accept, and take it like a man.

    after all if you had killed a family at that idiotic speed they would have to take it and accept it,

    i really hope you have learned friom this, and when you are back on the road take an advanced coarse, just to pay us all back for taking the time to talk to you.

    goodluck.
