Speeding Ticket NJ?

Hi everyone, i was given my very first speeding ticket for going 70 in a 55mph lane. The ticket says i have to do a mandatory court appearance. It's a 4 point ticket. My question is what do i have to do in order for this not to affect my insurance? I did some research and have read that i can ask to pay some sort of surchage along with the ticket and court fines so as not to have the points on my insurance. I read that this can be requested by first time offenders. Can anybody please clarify me on this? I also read i should be expecting some type of package in the mail, the officer didn't tell me this i just read it somewhere. Also can anyone explain to me the difference between speeding tickets you can pay online as opposed to having a mandatory court appearance speeding ticket? All answers will be well appreciated but please no bashing. I am well aware that i was in error here i just need some decent and reliable answers..thank you

  1. You didn't say how old you are? If you are a new driver, like a teen, this ticket could cost you bigtime in increased auto insurance rates.  Its probably not worth it to get a lawyer, but you should look into point reduction, which NJ offers.  You can take a drivers safety course and get the 4 point ticket reduced to only 2 points.

  2. You can ask the judge if you can take a defensive driving course and if he or she allows it then your ticket will be erased from your record and yes it will effect your insurance rates if he or she does not allow it.

  3. i dont think it affects your insurance, just your license points. everytime you get  ticket, your points get lowered. when you have no more points left, you are unable to drive i think for 3 months.
