Question:

Speeding Ticket in Georgia, how to move forward?

I got a ticket for going an alleged 80 in a 55 in Early County, GA on my way to Florida. I live in Cobb County and will be leaving for college this weekend in Athens-Clarke County. I was polite and cooperative with the officer.

The 25 MpH over will result in a suspension of my license because I am under 21, but is there any way to try to just have that ticket reduced by 2 MpH? I have read to contact and write the judge and officer, but how would go about doing that?

Heck, I don't even know where to begin with this, but I drive a delivery truck for Napa Auto Parts and this would cause me to lose my job...

What should I do? Thanks in advance!

  1. Bamboo S, that's a cool nick name dude ! I've been a patrol officer for six years now and out of state citations can be tricky.  If this is your first speeding citation, most judges will work with you.  I would call the clerk of court from the county in which the citation was written from and talk with them to see if you could have your citation deduced to something like an " Improper equipment charge ".  Here in NC most judges will allow the plea from other states so they want half to return to the state. When you call the clerks office, ask if you can get the DA's office number and talk to him/her about being out of state and pleading to an improper equipment charge, so you want half to come all the way back to GA.. Express how expensive Gas is " No thanks to Mr. Bush ! "  It's at least worth a try. All they can say is " NO ". If they allow it, It will keep your Ins. from going up and no points on the license, because this would be an Infraction " Meaning it's a payable fine ".   Good Luck !

  2. I would try to work with the court. See the guidelines on the blog spot below.

  3. You can schedule an appointment with the prosecutor. He may be willing to work out a plea arrangement for a lesser penalty.
