Question:

Speeding Ticket in NJ- Can it be disputed?

The cop pulled us over and said "radar indicated you were doing 83 in 55mph zone going down the hill back there."

He issued a $200 ticket, the max, predicated on our going that fast over the limit.

Yes, we were traveling fast, and we were accelerating down a hill, but that car has never done 80 in its life! 70 is the fastest we ever drive and l am sure we would have felt the difference.

But we were actually doing a bit over 70, which is the same fine.

Does the police have to show proof in court? Is there a minimum number of space you have to travel at that speed before they issue a ticket?

Basic question: mail it in or plead it in court?

The courthouse is about 1 1/2 hours away. Adding gas to court costs, is it worth it?

Advice would be much appreciated.

  1. Pay!!!

You will not win. Not in NJ. If it was State Police then heck no you will not win.

What will you say in court "I was going over 70 in 55 zone but it wasn't 80 like officer said so i should not pay!" They will laugh at you. Don't waste time or gas, just pay!!!
