I am 16 and today I just received my first speeding ticket. Will it be kept on my permanent record or whatever it is called. And if it is cleared or whatever, if, for example. somebody were to look up my files, would it show my first traffic violation? Thanks

  1. Be honest. If you were speeding and you know it just accept it and don't do it again.

It will be on your record and if you get 2 more within a year of having your license you will have your license taken away.

  2. It doesn't matter if you were passing a car. The speed limit is the speed limit.

Is the speed limit stupid sometimes? Maybe. If you get caught you get caught.

Do I speed to pass a car, sometimes but if you get caught you get caught.

What if a car was coming and I had to speed.....then you shouldn't have passed.

  3. Firstly, I am 18 and have had three Speeding tickets. But I have gotten out of like 6 tickets (being stopped). When a cop pulls you over, make sure you take these steps:

    1) Have License, insurance and registration ready when he walks to your vehicle. Be sure you have them at all times.

    2) Keeps hands on Steering Wheel.

    3) Make sure your seat belt is on and everything is safe. Seat Belt will do fine if he just pulled you over for speeding.

    4) Have you window rolled down for him or her to come up to your window to start talking.

    5) Make eye contact the whole time. Keep in mind that if you don't, they will feel that you are hiding something or not telling the truth.

    6) He will ask you why you were speeding or if you know why you got stopped. Just be honest. They really don't wanna hear something stupid like: "I'm sorry, Wendy's closes in five minutes and I really wanted to get there for a cheeseburger." Or "I usually never speed, you just caught me my first time speeding." If you say an excuse like that, they will usually know it is a lie because everybody speeds. What usually works for me is telling the truth but if you can get away with a lie that sounds legit and real, do it. But not too much. I say: "Yes officer, I'll admit I was speeding and I'm sorry about that. I just got off work and am exciting to meet up with some friends tonight. I know I shouldn't have and I admit it was wrong of me." Something along that line works as long as the cop isn't a total jerk. They usually will say: Ok, this is just a warning to you. Slow down and drive safe. Just don't lie and be truthful but if a lie sounds legit that he can believe, go for it.

*Just the most important thing is too: Make eye contact, be confident when talking to the cop, and don't freak out. Stop as soon as you can and don't try to run. Don't studder and be afraid. If you work your cards right, you'll be ok. Unless you were speeding by a lot. Keep in mind, I have been stopped speeding 55 in a 15 (construction zone at night where the limit is usually 45) and the first words out of the cops mouth was you are going to jail but I didn't even get a ticket.

As for getting it off your ticket, you can go to traffic school. The court has your ticket on file but if you go to traffic school, the school will send a slip to the court saying that you completed the class and they will drop it off your record. YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE IT IN THE PAST TWO YEARS. Then once you complete the class (one Saturday from usually 7:30-4 - Atleast where I am in Arizona), wait about a week and check back for your driving record and it should be off. Or you could go to court and fight the ticket. But Judges usually believe cops over you especially being 16.

    Good luck.

  4. You should be able to go to some sort of Defensive Driving Class.  Sometimes they will allow you to do that.  It will be cleared from your record then.

  5. Go to traffic school if you can -- if you weren't going TOO fast.  Otherwise it will remain as points for three years and will affect what you have to pay for insurance.
