im 16 and have had my license for 5 months and i got pulled over for speeding. I was goin 61 in a 35, but i was coasting and it was down a hill. Also, it was dark and dry out. I got a court date and i was wondering what the outcome would be. Can i lose my license?

p.s. i have never had an incident with the police before on record

  1. This is considered reckless in most states and being only 16 is not a good sign. The hill does not matter because you are supposed to be in control of the vehicle at all times. I am not sure what your states laws are but your parents will most likely have to appear in court with you since you are a minor. You may be able to request driving school but our judge never allows it on a reckless driving ticket. I would guess you would not point out and lose your license but like I said I don't know what your state laws are. Your insurance will go up and you need to make better driving decisions in the future. Keep control of your vehicle no matter if you are on a hill. If you hit someone would you be able to blame the hill or the fact that you were coasting? Tell your parents whats going on and try to get them to take you to see the judge before the court date.

  2. You're 16, going 25mph over speed limit, very likley a fine and suspended license for a few months.

  3. You are going to get a fine. It may be large based on the amount of speed you were over the limit. IF you go to court and fight it, those excuses you gave will work AGAINST you. Coasting is illegal, should have been breaking. Dark, you should be going slower because of the conditions. Downhill, you did not have proper control over your vehicle. Should have been braking. This could be considered reckless driving! Best bet is to pay the fine and reread the Vehicle Code book.

  4. You won't lose your license, you just have to pay a fine.  You probably don't have to go to court, usually paying a fine is all that is required---unless the citation states that it is mandatory.  In MN court is mandatory if you go 100mph, but not 61.

  5. 61 in a 35 aint that bad as long as you had no reefer or open beers in the car and did not run over any school kids. Relax, our criminal justice system really does not give a rats behind on such trivial matters.

  6. Yeah, your driving days are numbered. Of course it's obvious that numbers don't mean much to you, like the numbers on signs. The numbers on the fine however might get your attention.
