Speeding ticket - 65mph on a 40mph road....what now?

Hi All,

I have just recieved my first speeding ticket in the last 1 and a half years of driving. I have been caught doing 65 on a 40 mph road.

Does anyone know the possible penalty.

As i havent passed for more than 2 years i only have a limit of 6 points so am a little worrid.

You didn't receive a fixed penalty notice because there is the potential for you to lose your licence.

That being the case, you are likely to receive a summons to court.  The range of options open to the magistrates for what is known as SP30 (Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road) is 3-6 points (hence the possibility of losing the licence), plus whatever they decide to throw at you in the way of a fine.  

If you plead guilty and take the opportunity to apologise to the Court for being stupid and taking up their time etc. you're likely just to receive 3 points, a fine and an earful.

watch your speed next time,  65 in a 40 means  you were 25 over the speed limt.    penalty means the limt of speed, 65 in a 40 speed zone, that pretty fast.

Taking 1 day course ELIMINATES you from receiving points on your driving licence.

you should be given a choice as to whether you want the points put on your licence or you agree to take a one day course costing around 50-70 pounds making you aware and ensuring your aware of your faults, road safety and road awareness. if 6 or more points are gained within time limit consequences are:

1. CONFISCATED licence...... then you

2.Re-Apply for provisional......then you

3. Need to Retake BOTH THEORY and PRACTICAL  tests.

seen a lad on tv last night 12 TIMES over the legal alcohol limit , he literally could not stand up ! banned 12 months and £60 fine ! so they will probably let you off . ( not )

A Fixed Penalty Notice must reach within 14 days since the offence was committed. You'll have to pay a 60 pound fine and you'll have three points on your licence.

Let this be a lesson for you - you were just 5mph shy of going to court for doing 30mph over the limit. Which would probably mean 6 points and much higher fine.

If you're lucky, you were just flashed by a dummy camera - a speeding car will trigger the flash but no picture is taken. Happened to me once, "roadworks" on a motorway, speed reduced to 40.... I was doing something like 50, flash went off but no FPN followed. But it was 3 AM and there was no traffic so maybe they just let it be.

But if you are left with 0 point , you cannot drive for a certain amount of time .

I think its 3 points and a £60 fine, you might be offered the chance to go on a course, if you do and you go on it you still get the fine but not the points.

Be more careful, as speeding is dangerous. You are only allowed 6pts in total in the first 2 years as a full license holder.

Twice the speed limit is an automatic court appearance, so in a way you were fortunate the speed limit wasn't 30!!!!!!!

I'm not really sure as you said you've been only driving for yr & half so ur still under that 2 yr probation, maybe go on dvla web site see if it say's anything there? but also double check this ticket does it all tally up, u being there ect? you never know!!!
