  2. (Note to above--that is Interstate 80, not 80 mph!)

For an adult, the fine would be approximately $380.  Some courts do not allow traffic school for speeds over 20 mph above the limit or for speeds over 80 mph.  However, you will be going before a juvenile traffic hearing officer with a parent.  Traffic school may be more easily obtained there.

  3. No idea.

  4. probably not, my friend got caught speeding recently (shes 17 too) and had a REALLY expensive ticket i think it was $400 sorry

  5. my dad is a retired chief of police and used to serve as a traffic court judge in the bay area.  also, i went through this whole ticket process a little while ago.  trust me when i tell you, this is the truth.  don't listen to anyone else.

i got a ticket not that long ago and the fines were about $300 something when i got the notice in the mail, but were reduced to about $200 something when i showed up to court.  the officer who ticketed me didn't show up to the hearing and i was dismissed [no fines, no points, no school, nothing] by default.  hopefully this will happen to you, too.  if the cop doesn't show up to court in california, you are automatically freed of all charges.

if not, but it's your first ticket, you can get traffic school.  your ticket should tell you all the details on the back, and you should be getting something in the mail like i said soon that will have even more details.  if you do traffic school, it takes the point off your record and your insurance should not go up.  if you don't, the rates go up depending on the insurance company you have and what happens in court.  [and for future reference, california law says you can take traffic school as many times as you want to as long as you don't take it more than once in an 18 month period.  seeing as it's your first ticket, you still qualify to take traffic school instead.]

also, you can plead three ways: guilty, not guilty, or no contest.  guilty and not guilty are obvious.  no contest means you admit you were going over the speed limit but you had a reason, or you don't think you did anything wrong.  there's really no difference between guilty and no contest, other than that it shows you disagree or agree with the ticket on record.  other than pleading not guilty, you will still be formally charged with speeding and will have to pay the fines.  if you plead not guilty, it will go to a second court date where you will have a chance to tell your side of the story and hope for the judge to side with you.  let me tell you now, the judge usually doesn't side with people unless they were being followed or some other extreme thing has taken place.  and sometimes not even then.  if you plead not guilty, it will give you more time to pay the fines and can  help give you time to save, but if you're still found guilty the judge can actually choose to make the fines go up.  a lot of judges feel it's a waste of time to go through a second trial if it's not necessary and won't go very easy on you [unless you have a really good reason, like i said.]

anyway, i hope this helps.  good luck, sweetie.

  6. 27 mph over the limit?you may lose your license,as you should.not affect your insurance??LMFAO!!! its goona be like your premium notice has a booster pack strapped to it,and they may also drop you for 27mph over, and you may become uninsurable.way to go,leadfoot.SLOW DOWN.

  7. Simple Answer,

The majority of the time, the cop will write you a lower speed so you can go to traffic school.  I think he did that here, if he wrote you going 80 instead of 92.  All you have to do is call the County Clerk's office and ask them if your eligible for traffic school.

If you are eligible, I would recommend doing traffic school ONLINE.  http://www.TicketRelief.com is by far the best school out there.  It was quick, easy, and super convenient.
