I got my first speeding ticket for going over 12 miles (not a highway) the legal limit. How much can I expect to pay?

It was my 1st traffic offense.

  1. I live in Texas, and in my city, the fines are on the back of the ticket. It's usually a certain amount for the first 5 or 10 miles over the limit and then an additional sum of money per mile over that first 10.

Everybody's excuse is that they're late... it's not a valid excuse.

The purpose of the ticket is to help you be more motivated to leave on time.  Worked that way for me. ;-)

  2. Being late is no Excuse.

And you can expect it to be at least 200 or up to 300

  3. I don't know the cost, but in most states if you show up to your court date and plead guilty your fine will be reduced.  If you're lucky, you might just get assigned a driver's ed class (a couple hours), and have the ticket waived, though possibly still paying the much lower court costs.  This depends a lot on the judge and exact location, though.

  4. Might be the death penalty.  Those Texans to put up with no sh*t.
