I gotta speeding ticket for doing 80 in a 65 on the highway, I-55 near wilmington to be exact i had to sign that the officer gave me my license back and my court dates sept 4 at 1:00 at the bolingbrook courthouse

it was on 8/11/08 at 11:20 and i was given a 2 tickets one for speeding and one for not having my insurance card EVEN though i DO have it.

what can i do to make this painless and less costly to no cost?

i was very responsive and did not say anything belligerent to the officer

though i dont believe i did 80 , 70-75 at best.

  1. Go on your court date & fight it!! The officer has to prove that you were going that fast. I was pulled over for the same thing, but I would have gotten my license taken away cause he tried to say that I was going 25 over or something like that, but funny thing was I had a radar & it didn't even go off & my radar was like $150 so it wasn't a cheap one. So when he came to my window & said that I was getting a ticket for going that fast, I asked him if he could show me the radar gun that 'clocked me going 25 over the speed limit' & he tried to tell me that he didn't have to prove it to me, etc. probably because I am a girl & he figured that I didn't know anything about cars & the LAW. But anyways he didn't even show up for the court date & I kept my license & just had to pay $20 or $30 for a court fee or something. Now I don't know what they will say about the insurance thing. Probably nothing because you have insurance, just warn you to carry it. I hope this calms your nerves & doesn't hurt your wallet HAHA!

  2. You did not state your age however it really does not matter much here.

Your 625 ILCS 5/3-707 - operation of vehicle without proof of insurance ticket will most likely get dismissed - if you bring poof you had it at the time of the stop.

Your speeding ticket will most likely draw a fine and supervision, but you may have to go to traffic school.

Your fine could end up being as high as $200

  3. So, with a statement like "70-75 at best," you don't know what speed you were really doing?  Not at all good if you have any intention of contesting the ticket.  On the other hand, if you're willing to concede to the judge that you were, in fact, doing between 70 - 75 mph, not 80, I'm sure he'll probably accept that and reduce your fine accordingly.  Seriously!  It won't be much of a reduction since most of the fine is for speeding, and the exact amount only adds a few dollars more onto it.  But it would still be a reduction.

For your insurance, depends on the state.  Some say that it's a violation to not have the proof of insurance, even if you're covered.  Not much you can do, there.  But most states are only concerned that you are covered.  So if you can show a valid insurance certificate in court that proves you were covered on the day of the ticket, they may dismiss that ticket.
