Question:

Speedometers on fords in the United Kingdom and Ireland?

I have read that speedos on fords tend to be slightly overstated in that the indicated speed on them is 4 ro 5 more than the actual speed. Is this correct? Apparently EU law states that cars must not indicated speeds lower than actual speed...therefore car manufacturers ensure that their speedos are slightly higher than truth in order to avoid being sued.....sounds fairly logical?

anyone know anything more? Is this correct?

  1. In the older days this was true and what they did was make the speed show higher and the mileage would be moving faster, they did this to show that the vehicle was getting better mileage than posted on the window, but not anymore.

  2. Not true, all speedo's have a fudge factor of about + or- 5 kph or mph, especially from the factory, if you wear 1/8 of an inch tread, that makes the wheel turn slightly faster, if you put all weather tires on the tread is slightly thicker and the wheel turns slightly slower, make sense?
