If your doing a spell (from a book or somthing) do you have to have EVERYTHING it says to have to perform the spell?

What will happen if you perform it without the "ingrediants"?

  1. Nope as long as your belief is strong enough everything should be fine.

  2. witches make their own spells, so its up to them if its according to the rules of the spell they made to use certain ingredients or not. there is no such thing as a SPELL BOOK. we don't get spells from some sort of manual, we make them. Sometimes we ask other witches for spells that they'd like to share. It really depends on the spell the witch made, since she made, she gets to decide whether if she has to use a certain ingredient or not. if you made a spell but lacked an ingredient, then revise the spell to fit what you have, or maybe find that missing ingredient. it all depends on the witch who made the spell.

  3. It's best to get an understanding of how spells work and why the spell you're wanting to do calls for the tools that it does.  You will then have enough knowledge in doing your OWN personal spell(s).

  4. Most Witches create their own spells, so they in turn, only use ingredients which are available to them.  This being said, if you are using someone else's spell (which obviously you are), then yes, you would need all of the ingredients.  If you don't have all of the ingredients, the spell will not work, or will not work to it's full potential.  Please think of a spell as a cooking receipe.  If you don't use all of the listed ingredients, the receipe will not turn out correctly.

Have a lovely rest of the evening.

  5. it helps to have every thing & or if not something you see as representing that item. also it helps to personalize the spell not just do it straight from the book! last it does take faith in the fact that the spell will work, without it there s no point in casting it as you donot believe it will work any way!

  6. The spell will work, maybe not as well. The "tools" used are to raise energy and get you into the conscience of magic. After practice you should be able to conjure the energy for a spell without the ingredients, but it is never as fun!

  7. Well, the eye of neut they sell at the local magic

shop came from china and was really only eye

of snail. This caused everyone who used it to

turn into squeeky little animals like Karl Rove.

If you can't be sure that you're using the right

ingredients, you better be prepared for some

    pretty serious consequences.

  8. I do agree with some of the answerers that said a spell is like a recipe, but just like in cooking if you are missing something then you can substitute- true you take the risk of it not being perfect, but you could also make it better, more individual. many magickal ingredients have similar uses so if you cant find a rare ingredient there is often another ingredient that is easier to obtain and does a similar job. id need to know if there was particular ingredients you were talking about, to know their substitutes but if its just a general question- no you don't need the exact ingredients, you can adapt. *Blessed Be* :)

  9. Well, you can use things in place of what it calls for, as long as the replacement item is similar/has a similar meaning.

The ingredients add power to the spell, so it is best to have some of what the spell calls for.

EDIT: Goblin obviously has more experience than I do--I've only been practicing for 3 years!

  10. the answer above is correct, in fact some spells might work if you replace an ingredient for a similar one. But not all work that way. And you have to be careful, because replacing an ingredient can also be dangerous and give you a different unexpected result.

  11. all is by faith if you can believe thats how the supernatural works by the sixth sense but why do want to cast spells?

  12. A spell is like someone's receipe for what they think of as a good version of a dish. In other words, by doing such and such and using such and such, they got such and such a result.

When you are a beginner, it helps to follow someone else's receipe to the letter, not because it is the best receipe but because it gives you someplace to begin your own understanding of what is going on. As you get more advanced, as you begin to experiment more with spells, you will begin to understand why many witches follow certain guidelines in doing their spells and you will also begin to see how many of those spells are just that, suggestions. Spells are as much about the individual taste of the practitioner as they are about effectiveness. In other words, the more effective the ingredients are to the witches' mind, the more effective the spell will be in general.

True magick is simply applying your will to the universe. If you want money, you just 'will' money to come to you (no spells, no dancing around, no bubbling cauldrons, no trappings whatsoever) and spells are kinda like the training wheels that get you to that point. Its not the salt or the oregano or the orange candle that is doing the work, its you.
