Spencer Levin finishes one stroke behind the leaders at Waste Management Phoenix Open – Golf News
The US professional golfer, Spencer Levin, fired a six-under par 65 in the opening round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) Scottsdale, Arizona, to share the second position with Webb Simpson on the leaderboard.
Webb Simpson, the top-ranked player participating in the event, finished six-under par 65 on the first day, as he was among the first group to finish its round on time.
Spencer was among the 42 players who were not able to finish their rounds on Thursday, February 2, 2012, as the game was suspended due to bad light.
Therefore, all of them had to resume their rounds on Friday morning.
However, it was again delayed because of heavy frost on the course and the game started after an hour of the scheduled time.
Spencer managed to hit 16 greens in total, converting seven of them into birdies in his opener, including superb 14'7” and 13'5” putts on the third and fourth holes, respectively.
Jason Dufner was another player who looked outstanding when the game resumed. He carded two birdies on his final five holes to share the lead with Ryan Palmer at seven-under par 64.
Ryan Palmer recently converted back to his old Odyssey putter, which he thinks helped in playing a better game.
“I used the exact same putter the last two years, and of course had two of the best years of my career,” Palmer said in satisfaction.
“But toward the end of the year last year, around the BMW, I just got frustrated with not making anything, so I thought I'd try something different, put a similar style head in play and actually had some success,” he continued.
“But my first two weeks out here I could tell I wasn't comfortable when I'd get over the short putts,” he added.
Palmer decided to revert back to his old putter after he missed the cuts early in the season at the Sony Open and Humana Challenge in January, 2012.
Therefore, he now expects to make some finishes in the upcoming events and looks forward to moving in the right direction.
