Spencer Levin takes lead after 54 holes at the Memorial Tournament
Spencer Levin carded a three-under par 69 in the third round of the Memorial Tournament, presented by Nationwide Insurance to take a one-stroke lead, entering the final round at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Levin started off on the front nine of the course and looked in a great form right from the start. He carded a birdie on the second hole, followed by an amazing eagle on the par-five fifth hole, and another birdie on the sixth.
“Off to a good start,” he said. “The putt on 2 was great. I wasn't expecting that. And then hit a bad drive on 3 in the right rough and drew a really good lie, which was fortunate, was able to make 4 there”.
Through the first 10 holes, he was five-under for the round. However, he failed to hold on to that score and recorded two bogeys on the 12th and 16th holes.
He now has a one-stroke lead over Rory Sabbatini who carded a one-under par 71 with the help of four birdies against three bogeys.
“I had some really good breaks, so I'll take it. I played pretty solid, but it's nice to have a couple good breaks,” he said. “But if you're going to shoot the low round of the day out here on the TOUR, or any day, you're going to have a couple good breaks
or make long putts or chip in generally. Yeah, it was a good day to have a good day. It was nice”.
Levin has never managed to record a victory on the PGA Tour since he first played as an exemption in 2009 season.
Therefore, he now has a great opportunity ahead of him to open an account on one of the most prestigious golf tours in the world.
He just needs to remain focused and hold his nerves on the final day that can be a nervous one for him.
Apart from that, he should also pay a little more attention to his game off the tee, as he sometimes feel struggling to make good drives in the event.
In the meantime, the 14-time major winner Tiger Woods is four strokes behind him and looking for a good run in the final round too. He carded a one-over par 73 on Saturday.
