  1. Rule of thumb, without the details - €100/day is always a safe bet.  Seeing as you have less costs with overnighting, probably less, but count on my estimate.

  2. I disagree with Alwin: public transport will cost you between 12 and 20 Euros per week, depending where your family lives.

Apart from that, most expensive will be if you want to go out at night. Drinks can cost 6-8 Euros, beer is much cheaper.

Food can be quite cheap if you buy Pizza or Doener to go. You can also buy sandwiches from one of the many bakeries. Off course, a nice restaurant will be much more expensive.

For a week you should get along with 100-200 Euros if you are rather on a shoestring, but when eating out nicely every night then you'd spend more in the range of 300-400 Euros.

Only if you plan to go to the In-discos like P1 and drink champagne there and go shopping in the desinger shops at Maximilianstrasse, take a big credit card with you :-)

  3. If you can eat with the family, so on the first day you'll maybe spend 50 euros for a public transportation ticket that will last for a week and some decent food. You can easily spend way more, as Munich is an expensive town, but I'm sure your family will provide you with a list of places to go and will tell you which is the best way to go there. I liked experiencing Munich in luxury, so 50 euros a day are easily spent. Maybe considerably more, if you'd like some souvenirs. Maybe you'd like to buy a book (15 euros onwards), a magazine (about 3-4 euros), a newspaper (1.50 euros), a tourist t-shirt (around 15 euros), or send a postcard to the States (1 euro postage, plus the price of the postcard). If you just want to walk around, look, and take photographs, you can come along fine with, say, 30 euros a day. But if you want to enjoy Munich -- it's probably the most expensive town in Germany -- take 70 at least. That would be 450, or let's make it 500. You're on the safe side then. Less will do, but it won't be fun.
