what do you guys think of this. In my city my daughter is not being taught the Pledge of Allegiance, because it is unfair to other religions or non religions that God is mentioned.

Is this any where else and what do you think?

  1. Then change it.

Seriously, why can't a person be a good american and an athiest?

Why can't a person be a good american and a Hindu, Buddhist etc.....

I don't think it's unfair on other religions, I just think it's stupid that your pledge of alligence basically says you have to be christian in order to be american.

  2. I believe that children should be taught the Pledge of Allegiance (after all, it is a part of our culture and history) but should not have to recite it.

This is not for religious reasons, however. I am not Christian, but I don't have a problem with the "under God" thing. I think kids shouldn't have to recite it because it is an oath, and no one should have to say an oath before they can even understand it.

  3. Most schools have now removed the pledge from their daily thing because of GOD because they said forcing children to say the pledge of allegiance was forcing reglion on them, that children shouldn't be made to say GOD or to believe in GOD.  So yes to seperate things they are removing all religion based things from schools.  Some schools to fix the problem have made the pledge optional so kids don't have to say it.  The only way to get religion in a school is to go to a religious based school for example Catholic Schools.  I know that when i was in school we had to say it or we lost points for the day in our first class of the day so many kids felt forced to say it even if they didn't believe in GOD.  That is where the problem started, if schools make it just optional then it would be welcomed in the schools but if the schools force every child to say GOD then that is over stepping the "seperation of church and state" so parents complain.  When i was in school they would have kids say a little prayer when someone connected to the school (like student or teacher) died but now they don't want kids doing that because Praying is a religious thing.

  4. that's ok, she still can read her dollar bills and go to her court house to find biblical messages.

  5. i am in texas and not heard this but i am sure its wrong. i would be sad for this as its god is for all and should be recognized and he does for nations as well as coutnires and ifyou read history ones not for him lose big time.

  6. I think all this c**p has spun insanely out of control.  My kids learn the pledge in school here, they say it once a week and if you don't want to stand and repeat the words you do not have to.

EDIT:  if my child's teacher tried to tell them that they HAD to stand for the pledge, there would be HUGE problems.  they can make their own choices without being forced to do so.

  7. Tsunami - maybe you should have spent some more time studying grammar rather than learning the Pledge of Allegiance.  Perhaps, then the rest of us would have some idea what the h**l you were trying to say.

As for the pledge itself, it's not some tradition born of our forefathers in 1776.  It became widespread during the 1950s as a result of McCarthyism and the "red scare".   Regardless of its mention of God it should not be required in any school.

  8. I am a teacher and if a student says something about not wanting to say it I give them a couple of choices.  They will still stand out of respect for our country and those who have died and are fighting for our country and freedom.  Or they can say it but just leave out the Under God part.  It has worked out well and I have had no parents complain to me about it.  I think it needs to be taught because it has nothing to do with religion but our country.

  9. I live in Oregon too and I got judged because I was a Christian from my teachers pretty badly. I think it's ridiculous; like I don't think you should be forced to say the pledge but if you want to you should be able to. Also, teachers shouldn't be rude to you because you're a Christian.

EDIT: I don't shove my believes down peoples throats and I'm not judgmental towards people. I have atheist friends, g*y friends, Muslim friends, and I"m open to people. My friend and I were talking about Bible Studies after we finished our assignments and my teacher said oh do you really believe that c**p? That's offensive I'm sorry. People who shove their beliefs down your throat are obviously not good Christians.

  10. I think its c**p and un American.  Not the God part, but because it is the pledge of allegiance to our country.

On the other hand, this all started because the Christians cant be bothered to respect other religions.  I dont mean to hate on Christians, I am a Christian as well.  But if we as a whole group were more tolerant of other's beliefs, they would be more tolerant of ours.

The uproar of being forced to say the pledge because it says under god is a direct result of the Christian uproar of not wanting to be respectful of other's relgions.  I think if we as a group want to change this, then as I said, we as a group need to start respecting other people's beliefs.

  11. That's insane.  I live in MA, an extremely liberal state.  I recently attended my daughter's Memorial Day celebration.  Not only did everyone in attendance stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance, the children also sang "God Bless America".  I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, unfortunately, "Christmas" is not mentioned, it's "Winter this" and "Winter that".

Does your school accept your money to purchase lunch?  After all, US money has "In God We Trust" printed on each and every coin and bill.
