Question:

Spider Repelants for a basement enviroment?

I moved to the basement a few months ago in order to gain access to a bigger room and my own bathroom. However, I didn't know about my numerous guests that had decided to join me. I have a major spider phobia and have been slowly learning to kill spiders by myself while only screaming mildly and crying for my mother.

However, the more I kill, the more seem to take their place. It’s to a point where I am visited nearly three times a day...and those are by the ones that I can see. They are getting a bit more bold, considering I just had one crawl on my bare foot minutes ago...so I need serious help on how to keep them out of my room. I keep my room spotless in order to not give them somewhere to hide, I keep food and drinks out of my room and I kill any and all bugs that enter my room. I am not sure what to do anymore. I don’t care if they go and infest the basement and chew on their little buggies as long as they are not in a room where I sleep or shower. So, please help me.

  1. I too am afraid of spiders, give me snake over a spider any day of the week.  But since I'm currently without mate I must defend myself!  I read last year that using hedgeapples kept spiders at bay.  I haven't tried it yet and the hedgeapples don't come on until fall but I will certainly be trying it this year.  If you don't have Hedgeapple trees where you live I believe you can order them online.  We have about 25 trees so I'll line the buggers up all around my house.  Has anyone else noticed spiders coming in all summer this year???  Typically they don't come in till fall but this year they've not ceased coming in for some odd reason.  We get an abundance of Hobo spiders...aka wolf spiders here and they're incredibly big and I forget if it's the male or female that gets enormous; big enough to see moving in the yard from a second story window!!!  Kid you not.

  2. Check out the ideas on this web page:

  3. I can relate - I just moved into a basement apartment as well and am battling millipedes. You'll need to use a product along the perimeter of your living space - to create a line that they can't cross. You'll also need to kill whatever is inside that perimeter. Both can be tricky because (from personal experience) the stuff you can buy at the home improvement store down the street may not do the job, even though the label says it will.

I'd highly recommend checking out this website: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/

They offer free shipping and they are very helpful if you want to call and give them details about where you live, etc. that would be helpful in determining which product is best for you.

    Good luck!
