My partner thought he had been biten by a spider when sorting the garden out, He had a massive centre to the bite which was blood red almost black and redness and brusing around it. The doctor gave him antihistamines and antibiotics and said it was a horsefly.

He only has one day to go and he finishes the course, the centre bit has gone down but a good inch all around this centre has become inflammed and red from under the skin, do you think he should go back, has anyone else experienced this, I am really worried about blood poisoning. Thanks

  2. It does sound like a horsefly bite to me. Blood poisoning is usually seen by a red line running up the arm or leg. I had blood poising and it showed as a pink (pink highlighter) mark running up my arm from the location of the wound. Honestly most reactions to insect bites can get worse before getting better its a normal immune system reaction. I would not worry about it too much unless it looks like pus is in the wound or is really hurting.
