Question:

Spider plant turned almost all black and wilted overnight?

I have a spider plant that I have had for about 2 years. I started it from sprout and it got quite big and healthy over those 2 years. However, yesterday I trimmed the leaf tips like I normally do every few weeks and I woke up this morning to a nearly dead, black and wilted spider plant. The leaves are almost pure black and wilted up to the healthy part about half way up on most of the leaves. Some of the smaller ones are black all the way to the root base. The soil was not too dry or wet, about like normal. I did not fertilize recently (about 3 weeks ago) So I am just baffled by this mystery. I checked out the soil, nothing weird other than alot of mineral residue on the top, which is like normal. I ve had mineral deposits on the leafs, however I have never seen a plant wilt and turn black this fast, ever.

Does anyone know if there is some kind of rapidly multiplying bacteria that could devastate a plant overnight? Ive looked every where this indeed strange. Thank you

  1. I'd take poor ol' Spidey to your local nursery (floral). They should have specialists for houseplants. Actually call them first to see if they have someone you can take Spidey to for advice.

Is Spidey in a big enough pot? Maybe he is root-bound and needs new dirt and a bigger home........
