  1. Do the Tarantula dance, it's an ancient rite of passage used by many Italians to ward off spiders.

    I'm an idiot.

    =)

  2. There is or was a product in the US / Canada called "Spider Ban". If you can get it in the UK I don't know. A quick search on the net might tell you.

  3. Lindsey, you are very rude. She asked a legitimate question. Are you all knowing? Is there anything in this wide, vast universe that you may one day need an answer to? You have no right to call someone stupid because they ask for advice.

Now, here in the deep south, we also have little spiders. But, we also have newts and geckos, and they eat the spiders. Since we have the geckos, our spider population has diminished. I see maybe 4 or 5 tiny "house" spiders a year.

I use Raid Spider spray. But, you have to declutter. If you have stuff stacked in corners that don't get moved a lot, you have to do something about that. Then vaccuum all the edges of your flooring with the crevice tool of the vaccuum cleaner. Once that is done and everything is away from the wall, thoroughly spray the spider stuff. Also, check the ceilings, chandeliers, and over the curtains. Use a vaccuum or a long dusting brush to get rid of any webs. spray the ceiling corners. Then just keep it up. Clean house is very important.

  4. I'd like to know too!  I have lots of woods around my house & basement is ground level, so I get them frequently in my basement where there's not a lot of activity.  All I can suggest is don't let stuff SIT around that spiders would find nice to roost in, behind or under.  (I'd like to know what conkers are btw).

Stop up any holes or gaps like under your doors, under your kitchen sink where the pipe goes into the floor, etc...   Spray around your outer doors & windows frequently to deter new 'guests' from entering around cracks.

It's said bug sprays aren't too effective because they're up 'on legs' & the bug spray has no effect if just their feet touch it.

Boric acid or that Roach Prufe powder?  Don't know if it works on spiders but it's total annialation & devastation to roaches.

I feel for you--I get totally paranoid & hinky IF I let myself THINK about them.  Just smash them, say "I'ma GaGILLION times bigger than any spider" & try to forget.  If you think about how big, what shape, what color, hairy or rubbery, you're just ASKING for mental health intervention!   :p

  5. decorate and fill every hole .

  6. My other half sprays them withstrong hold hair spray then calls me to remove them. Thing is the feet stay behind sometimes on whatever surface they were on when you spray them.

Personally though I use a flip-flop or shoe.

  7. I brought a electric pest away last Oct i highly recommend you get one, i have only seen one very small spider since having it, no beetles nothing.

  8. There are sprays on the market which kill spiders. Not much comfort I know when you are terrified of them, but unfortunately there are no magic spells to eradicate them. Keeping your windows closed in the evening will help, as will not keeping windows open after rain as spiders come out looking for moisture.

I have heard that spiders hate the smell of conkers! Try placing piles of conkers around your room. I have no idea how true this is, nor have I tried it. Failing that, a large shoe/slipper will come in handy.

  9. i would try to make peace with them.

i dont remove cobwebs i leave them in place.

i always shut the windows when it rains as this is when they need to run inside.

also (from years of spider reseach carried out in my bathroom), i have discovered that the tiny body-long legged ones are more vicious than the big black fat hairy ones, so i encourge the little bodied ones cos i dont mind them.  its their webs that i leave.  they look like daddy long legs without wings and they can fight and kill the fat hairy one (yipee i hear you cry!)

good luck, i would keep asking them nicely to go, eventually they will, or they will die.  they dont live forever.

  10. my natural way i get rid of those things is with a baseball bat!

  11. i heard they dont like the smell of conkers so if you place bowls of them round your room they should soon disappear.

edit: conkers are the nuts from the horse chestnut tree

  12. use horse chestnuts (conkers) put them by your windows and they will be detered.  If you haven't any conkers left from last year you can get hold of horse-chestnut essential oil - it will do the same trick.

  13. First of all, you're stupid.  Second of all, we don't live in Happy Sappy Magic world.  Third, squish them.  Or use spider traps.
