Question:

Spiders in Sydney in July.?

We are planning a holiday to Sydney in late July/August. We will be travelling with our 3 month old baby. I am concerned (paranoid!?) about spiders and keeping her away from any that may harm her. How likely is it that any spiders will find their way into hotel rooms? Do spiders tend to die off over the winter months?

Thank you for any and all responses!

  1. Spiders in July ??  Is that anything like Christmas in June ?

  2. You and your baby will be completely safe in your hotel room. You won't need to take any precautions; there simply won't be any spiders.

Outside of your hotel room, you will be most unlikely to see any spiders - they're not nearly as prevalent as people from overseas seem to believe. If anyone is ever bitten by a poisonous spider, it's so rare and unusual that it makes the newspapers in other states. I've lived in Australia for over 60 years. I've seen some big spiders, but have NEVER seen a poisonous one.

Don't worry. There's nothing to be concerned about.

  3. Dangerous, or any, spiders will not get into hotel rooms.  I like a couple hanging around the house to deal wit mosquitoes & stuff.

  4. I have lived in Sydney all my life and never seen a dangerous spider. In summer we get daddy long leg spiders they have tiny bodies and long spindly legs, they are harmless and hover in the corners of the ceiling and catch flies, so they are our friends. You are not likely to see them or any flies  in a hotel.

  5. Huntsman spiders love coming indoors and you usually find them running from behind a curtain or the toilet. just make sure you stay in a decent place...and just for extra precaution for paranoid folk like yourself....go buy some surface spray. take baby out of room get hubby to spray the border rails and the door way....then you hubby and bub go for a walk until the room has time to air out (bout an hour)...leave a window open. as soon as a spider comes in to contact with surface spray, its pretty much dead spider walking!

  6. the hotel rooms have to keep up an inpection against insects and arachnids (spider) so there shouldn't be any spiders around cause the cleaners will clean daily (depending on where you stay) so there wont be any chance that a spider will want to go into a room filled with people that come in and out at a constant rate. Your baby will be safe.
