Spin all-rounders have major role to play for India in ICC World Cup: Abbas Ali
Former Indian cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 during the ICC World Cup, 2011.
Baig, who was the first Indian batsman to score a Test century abroad, termed Yousaf Pathan a genuine all-rounder. He also named Yuvraj Singh and Virdender Sehwag and said they had turned into mature batsmen, and will have to play a big role for their team.
Baig criticized the selectors for not adding enough variety to the spin attack. He said that Pragyan Ojha or Murali Kartik would have been an ideal choice for the squad.
The former cricketer observed that except for Zaheer Khan the Indian fast bowlers lack the fire power to cause some serious trouble. The strength, he believes, lies in their batting.
“No doubt, batting is our main strength. We have enough firepower. On an unusual day, it may collapse. But it takes us the whole way on Indian pitches,” he said in an interview.
Lower order batsmen were also advised by the former Test cricketer to provide support to the front-line batsmen.
“The lower order batsmen also have to chip in. The lower order batsmen have supported the frontline bastmen, which was not the case earlier. They certainly have a role to play in Indian conditions,” Baig said.
