  1. Samantha,

Spining and PUREing are basically the same thing with two different names. Spining is done with a spine finding machine, and PUREing is done with a computer program and a frequency machine. But they both find the same thing in a shaft.

What they both do is find the spine of a shaft. When a shaft is made it has a line that runs the entire length of the shaft. On a steel shaft, this is where the weld is. On a graphite shaft this is the ending point of the shaft making process.

This line is also the stiffest/strongest/heaviest part of the shaft. After finding this line, the shaft is placed into the hosel of the clubhead with this line directly in-line with the face of the clubhead. In other words with the line facing the same way the clubface is.

It is said to provide less torque and more accurate shots.

    Hope this helps,

    J

  2. They are the same thing done through two different methods (thus the two different names).  It is done to find the spine of the shaft and then the idea is to align the spine with the clubface to optimize the clubs performance.  It was more useful a few years ago as shaft technology was advancing rapidly and people were putting new shafts in their clubs a lot.  Now most clubs are so low torque from the manufacturer I doubt it is that necessary with a new club.
