Spinners play a huge role in T20s, feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Kartik-c78034 – Cricket News Update
Discarded left-arm spinner from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, Murali Kartik, believes that spin-bowling has become one of the most important facets in T20 cricket over the years.
With the introduction of T20 Internationals in 2004, it was generally anticipated that fast bowlers will hold the key, leaving little room for slow bowlers to make their mark, mainly owing to the destructive nature of T20 cricket. However, with the passage
of time, that thought has been put to rest with spinners becoming indispensible part of any team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228 have done remarkably well in T20 Internationals.
Kartik, while talking to ESPNcricinfo, expressed that spinners can now bowl at any stage of a T20 innings. He gave the example of Narine, who played a huge role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ title triumph in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL’s) fifth edition.
“When T20 started, the strategy was to have seamers bowl in the Powerplay overs. Now you see about three to four overs of spin in the first six,” the left-arm spinner said. “Another big change is, spinners play a more prominent role in the end overs, where
you see someone like a Sunil Narine successfully putting on the brakes and taking wickets.”
However, the cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamil-Nadu-c853 thinks that a spinner can be successful only if he applies all his variations and does not allow a batsman to settle down.
“You need to mix it up with a quick one, a yorker, bowl it wide if somebody is charging you. Every ball has to be different, and you need to keep thinking on your feet,” Kartik mentioned.
Spinners are expected to play a massive role in the on-going http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012 as well, with the Sri Lankan pitches likely to offer turn and bounce to the slow bowlers, a reason which led many sporting pundits to predict that the Asian nations will be a
major force in the event, owing to the quality of spinners at their disposal.
