Spirit Airlines general question?

First time flyer----I am pre-purchasing bags online. I am leaving from usa to mexico. The first flight there is a layover in Fort Lauderdale. Do I purchase checked bags for here too?

Long story short, no.  You pay for your baggage to travel from your origin to your destination, so you don't need to worry about paying extra for a layover.
