Spirit Is Needed set to return to form in Nortonthorpe Industrial Park Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield
Tim Vaughan’s 6-year-old, Spirit Is Needed, is all set to put his campaign on the winning ways after he has been dropped to a handy mark. On his latest outing at Perth, the son of No Excuse Needed showed plenty of progress, giving a clear hint of good rhythm.
He travelled nicely in the initial stages before tiring on Perth’s heavy ground. With a lot better surface at Sedgefield, Spirit Is Needed has a wonderful chance of returning to his best in the Nortonthorpe Industrial Park Handicap Hurdle, taking place on Tuesday, October 2nd.
Spirit Is Needed made a couple of awful outings early in the season. After finishing ninth at Market Rasen, the Select-racing-club.co.uk & C. Davies-owned could not improve, and failed to complete his run in Worcester’s Tiddesley Wood Yellow Egg Plum Handicap Hurdle at the end of July.
Bred by Mrs Joan Keaney, the bay gelding showed a lot of improvement on his latest trip. The conditions were very testing, but Spirit Is Needed did reasonably well in the hands of Richard Johnson.
He led initially, and put the rest under tremendous pressure. But the soft surface did not allow him to keep progressing and as a result, Spirit Is Needed got weakened in the final moments. Consequently, he could only seize the fourth spot in the Wallace Whittle Handicap Hurdle.
He is in good shape following a decent act last time. So, one can easily expect him to come up with a lot better effort this time. A star-studded line-up of 13 horses is waiting for the big fellow. The competition is for a prize worth £2,534. As per the plan, the class 4 meeting will be started off at 16:20 GMT.
Goldan Jess is coming into this race after a couple of convincing wins last month. So, Philip Kirby’s charge should not be taken lightly. Scriptwriter is another to watch out for. The 10-year-old seasoned campaigner also has a wonderful triumph under his belt.
Goldan Jess and Scriptwriter are trustworthy, but Spirit Is Needed can earn his supporters a lot of money. The odds are not in his favour, but his chances are quite obvious. Good luck to all the horses.
