Spirit Quartz remains unlucky in the 2012 campaign
The luckless four-year-old, Spirit Quartz, remains to face the victory drought that has become nearly endless ever since the new season took off. She ended as the runner-up of the Group 2 Gordon’s King George Stakes on 3rd August at Goodwood over
five furlongs.
The race that got its status revised to a Group 2 race in 2010 has never had such a competitive field gathered for it before. However, the 2012 edition of the race saw seventeen terrific top class sprinters for the five furlong race. All the contestants
for the race were rated above hundred while the winner, Ortensia, had the highest of the mark of 115.
The winner of the last year’s version of the race, Masamath, settled right behind Spirit Quartz.
Invincible Spirit’s daughter has been active eight times during the new season and the best that she has put through is the second position four times.
Robert Cowell’s under charge kick started the season with scoring second in the Get Your Bet On At Blue Square Hever Sprint Stakes (Listed Race) on 24th March, 2012 at Lingfield over five furlongs.
The race was won by, Fratellino.
Just twice during the season the four-year-old out of, Crystal Gaze, took part in the listed races as the ones after them were all graded races. The races range from Grade 3 to Grade 1.
She took her chances at Newmarket, Haydock, Ascot, Sandown and then finally struck the runner-up’s honour at the Glorious Goodwood meeting.
The last time that the Ballygallon Stud Limited bred won a race was in the Group 3 Premo Tudini on 7th May, 2011 at Capannelle over six furlongs in Italy. In terms of being successful, the previous season suited her the best as the 2012 campaign
has failed the give the reason to the connections for any celebrations.
Taking her level down from the graded to listed company has not helped much either, the series of defeats has gone uninterrupted.
The future plans for the Irish bay gelding have not been brought out in the open yet. However, the connections need to be wise when choosing her next stop in regard with the distance, surface, ground conditions and the jockey.
