Spirited Zulfadli Zulkifli determined to make his mark at senior level – Badminton news
Malaysia’s spirited young shuttler Zulfadli Zulkifli, who has recently clinched the Men’s Singles crown in the World Junior Championships, is determined to train hard to make his mark in the senior level.
In the last week’s world meet, Zulfadli defeated Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, who was the defending champion in the tournament. Through this win, the Malaysian proved that he is progressing in the right direction even without the help of the Badminton Association
of Malaysia (BAM).
He trains under the supervision of his father, Zulfadli Sidek, and participates in the international events with the sponsorship of KLRC, a famous badminton club of professional shuttlers in Malaysia.
The FZ Forza, a Danish company has awarded Zulfadli with prize money of US$10,000 for winning the title in the World Junior Championships. The marketing manager of FZ Forza, Ryan Loo expressed that they have already signed a three-year contract with Zulfadli
in the month of October but kept it secret to let the shuttler focus on the tournament.
Now Zulfadli is determined to put up good show at the elite level by working harder in training sessions. He is well aware about the fact that he has to put double effort if he wants to make an impact on the world stage.
While talking about his intentions to perform at the elite level, Zulfadli said, “I obviously have to train doubly hard to continue my progress in the senior level.”
The young shuttler also said that lack of exposure in international events keep the junior shuttlers away from getting at the highest level. However, Zulfadli is optimistic for getting more opportunities to represent Malaysia in all international events.
He said, “I think the lack of a proper training programme and international tournaments have hindered the progress of the juniors. I hope to get more opportunity to play in international tournaments to improve.”
Now Zulfadli’s focus will be to prove his worth in the arena of elite shuttlers as his aim is to become the top seed in the country and become a true successor to the ruling World Number One Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.
