Spiritual Star, another sparkling prospect for the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket
Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket has been making great news about all those who will be participating in it and one of the brightest candidates shine out to be Andrew Balding’s Spiritual Star.
"It's very exciting to have a runner in a race like this. It's a big step into the unknown - if you like we're going from one end of the swimming pool to the other”, said James Stafford, racing manager for owners Thurloe Thoroughbreds.
Spiritual Star’s very first attempt at the maiden failed as he stood only third in that race and it was St Leger’s winner trainer John Gosden’s Eastern Sun who won the maiden while being ridden by William Buick. This event included ten contestants on the
field.
The star has just very recently broken his maiden on 23rd September at Newmarket with twelve other struggling on the track for breaking their maiden. The entries for this maiden included participation from the stables of Mahmood Al Zarooni and
Sir Michael Stoute but none could see their trained win the race.
Jimmy Fortune riding on Spiritual Star soon led the lot, made rest, pushed along and with all the willingness possible he went clear for over one furlong out, in no danger after and was able to wave goodbye to the track very comfortably.
"After his last run I think he deserved to have a crack at it and he's running at a track he knows and on ground we know he likes. We're punching with the heavyweights but whatever happens, he'll be a lovely horse for next year”.
It was Charles Hills’s trained Ellal under Richard Hills who was able to race to be positioned second. Initially the horse dwelt but soon managed staying in touch with the lot, chased the winner by four furlong out, was ridden and got outpaced well over
one furlong out but with faded chances of threatening the winner at all, kept on clear being the second to race in the final furlong.
Third to go through the wire turned out to be Snooky trained by Henry Candy and ridden across the wire by Dane O’Neill.
This will be Spiritual Star’s first chance at real ‘racing’ after breaking his maiden and this would also put his potential for contesting in the future races and his career scope.
