Spiritual programs on PBS or Church. What's the difference and which is best?

Wayne Dyer says "there is a spiritual solution to every problem" on PBS. Why do people listen to him and not go to listen to their pastor?

I am thinking that Wayne gives them things that work, while the pastor is making promises of "things to come."

But what do you think?

  1. I love Wayne Dyer,Doreen Virtue,........their whole community. I was unaware he was on T.V. so thnx! I only hear him on hay-house, and have most of his self help: hypnosis audio books........

  2. There's a preacher on PBS now??

Wow, it's really gone downhill since the days of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

  3. I think the difference has to do with how a person deals with their

spirituality; some people take a more passive approach and go the

more traditional route by regular church attendance and seeking

spiritual advice from their minister who is confined by the "rules" of

that particular denomination. Others take a more active, personal

approach that is far less dependent on a limited interpretation of

Christ's teachings. I happen to use the less traditional approach because it has worked better for me. I've often been criticized by my

more traditional Christian friends but, oh well, they have their life and I

    have mine.

  4. Years ago Wayne Dyer told people that if they got cancer it was their fault.  He was an idiot then, and he's an idiot now.  I just happens that there are lots of people who buy into his particular brand of idiocy, so he's making a fortune on people's gullibility.

  5. Wayne Dyer was my high school counselor.  Imagine my surprise when I saw him on TV.  I was a troubled teen and his counseling always left me feeling inspired.  Here's the problem.  There are many tele-evangelists, spiritualists, counselors I truly enjoyed when they first came on the scene.  The more successful they get the more commercialized they become.  I watched Wayne Dyer on PBS about a year ago and though he seemed to be the sweet, loving counselor I remember, his message was a load of bull....  When Joyce Meyer first came on the scene, her message was honest, clear, and humble.  Now her message is cloudy and definitely not humble.  The same holds true for pastors.  I've met new pastors and they are full of zeal and a true desire to shepherd in the ways of God.  The longer they pastor the more people pleasing they become.  All the pastors of mega-churches are nothing more than prosperity, feel good preachers.  That's what the public wants.  If you are a true preacher of God's ways I guarantee you will not go far.  We want to hear only the good parts of the bible.  We don't want to hear about the trials, persecutions, and sacrifices for others.  We want to feel good and live in la-la land.  The bible states that every man must work out his own salvation.  There's nothing wrong from getting advice from others, be it a pastor or spiritual guru (on Tv or books).  The problem is that often we place too much emphasis on these people and leave God out of the equation.  These people are humans and therefore fallible.  Pray often and seek God first.  Work out your own salvation don't leave it to someone else to do your thinking.
