I've gone 9 months. Then I started again.

Interesting thing in the article is that many that go without TV are either very liberal or very conservative. So they have that much in common.

I wonder how atheists and Christians match up?

  1. I'm Wiccan, just to let you know, match-up wise.

I went seven and a half months once (involuntary, I was deployed) and I've gone three months at a stretch on a number of occasions, voluntarily.  I prefer reading to watching the TV, and even when I'm in one of my watching periods, I watch only a couple of specific shows a week.

  2. I stopped watching for a year when I came back from a tour in the Netherlands. I actually did not know that Operation Desert Storm has started. :P

Today I watch minimal TV and just resort to NetFlix DVDs. Although, I do so enjoy Big Bang Theory. Can't wait for season 2.

PS - Your avatar looks just like my cat tuxedo! :O

  3. The last time I had a broadcast signal (cable/over the air/etc) flowing through my TV was two years ago in June.

The last time I watched a TV program was Battlestar Galactica's season finale (January 08, I think).

I occasionally put on South Park or Simpsons re-runs, but mostly as a noise distraction while I'm browsing the web or playing video games.

  4. I went for 3 years without television --that's why I am such an internet addict. I could no longer pay both cable and internet bills so the kids and I decided to give up the television.

It's been less than a year since we've had it back, and I might watch maybe an hour a week. The kids don't watch much more than that.

  5. A month-and-a-half.  But I don't watch that much TV anyway.  Most of my TV viewing is the news.  I like the Simpsons and House...that's about it.  I'll catch The Daily Show and Colbert Report when I get the chance.  Like right now.  Colbert is on.

    Atheist.

  6. I always have the news on in the background.

  7. I've never kept track, but I would imagine about a month or so.

This is not standard for me, however.  I currently have me a big ol' LCD widescreen TV with 150+ channels of absolutely nothing I feel morally obligated to flip through on an hourly basis in the vain hope of finding something worth watching.

  8. I've gone about 13 hours, but I was sleeping. Does that count?

    I'm a t.v. junkie.

  9. i went two weeks....i was at church camp lol

  10. I lived in the jungle of Papua New Guinea for two years. Not a TV in sight for 1000 miles...

    Currently, I watch TV daily.

  11. 3 years give or take Christian

  12. A week... I cannot survive without it. Lol.

  13. i watch Jack McRoe's Atheist Bible Study.

Its on at noons after The Morbid Story of Bi Bill.

    So NEVER.

  14. I despise stupid-vision it annoys me . Liberals are actually the conservatives didn't you know ? It is actually the conservatives that want to change things . Mine has been dead for 5 months and was never off channel 3 in the entire year I had it { they do make good monitors } .

    Hi Red

  15. I haven't ever been a big fan of TV. I think it's because I grew up in rural Vermont and we didn't have cable - could only get one channel w/ antenna.

About 15 years ago I lived without a TV for about a year or so. I never missed it. People often asked me how I could live without one and I told them I found many other things to do with my time that were far more constructive than TV. That usually shut them up.

I do own one now and I find it almost a waste of money. Same old s**t over and over again.

  16. A few years back my TV did a nice little explody thing during a lightening storm with power flickers. I never did figure out what was wrong with it, but it was pretty much dead on arrival.

My schedule was lot busier than normal around that time, and I didn't bother to buy a new one for about four months. I didn't really miss it... untill I started watching it again.

I can't live without an occasional Daily Show fix!

  17. I don't even have my TV hooked up to cable or an antenna.  I do watch DVDs though.  And I watch when I'm over with friends and family, that's about it.  I'm neither liberal or conservative, I'm more libertarian.

  18. Months...dunno how many. I remember it was 2005. I was so busy working on a show (theatre, not TV) that I literally had no time for TV. I remember it was around August/Sept cos I missed the whole Katrina thing.

  19. I hardly ever watch TV. I think it's been well over a year now.

  20. Spiritually, I never watch TV.

But ACTUALLY, I don't think I've gone more than 10 days without it in 10 years.

  21. My roommates and I are in our 7th month without television. Our television died a violent death and we just never replaced it. I don't know if we like not having it or are just too lazy to go get a new one and have the cable turned back on.

I can't say that I haven't watched television other places, though. And I do miss Anthony Bordain .. a lot.
