Im attempting to grow some spirulina, however depending on where I read some will say it grows in salt water and other say fresh water. Can it grow in both? The exact species I have (currently in a test tube) is Spirulina major. The water it came in (in the test tube) is salt water but if possible I would like to use fresh water since its easier to deal with and less corrosive.

  1. Your best best is to use fresh water -- salt water is used because of its alkaline & nitrate content.  You can get these from natural places.

  2. The sources I'm reading all use fresh water so I think using fresh water would be okay even though it came in salt water.
