  1. You just need a drop cloth to put down on the grass.  If you don't have one, you can buy one of those super cheap thin plastic ones.  They're kind of annoying cause they're so thin, but it'll do the job.

EDIT: Or you could just spread out a lot of newspaper.

  2. Just tear open a trash bag, lay it flat on the grass, lay your shirt there, and start splattering away.

It's very simple and cheap. And knowing that most people carry trash bags, even the homeless ones, I assume you have one somewhere.

  3. i splatter painted my shoes and jeans on the grass

it was fine cuz it gets watered a lot

  4. During my senior year of Art school I worked on a series of paintings that were very drippy and splattery and I actually did it inside.  I took over a wall of my house and hung extra lg garbage bags (cut open to create one sheet), taped them together and drapped them down the wall and over the floor.  I then hung over the plastic two layers of bed sheets. (bought at the goodwill)  This gave plenty of fabric to soak up the watered down paint.  I then flicked and splattered my brush all over the place creating a 5 piece series.

I think you could do the same outside.  Create several layers to protect the grass.  Perhaps with old shower curtains and sheets.  Use some heavy rocks to hold down the corners and splatter away!  Get crazy and stay creative!
