Question:

Splicing coaxial cables?

I simply need to cut the coaxial line, throw in a splitter, and run a new wire somewhere else. I want to know what special tools are necessary for stripping the wire, and attaching plug part, I assume it's crimper of some sort.

  1. You need a cable cutter and stripper tool which properly strips the coax and it's shielding.  You need a compression tool..Crimps don't make as good a connection.  Find and use compression type fittings.  Better connections and less cable breakdown.  Also, make sure your barrel connector is of high quality to reduce signal loss.  You can easily spend $30-$50 on the tools.  If you do a lot of it I recommend it.  If not look for preexisting cable with ends.

  2. You don't need anything too special just something that can cut the coax and then you can peel back the rubber and expose the wire.  After you cut it you put on a s***w-on coax connector (Can find at any wal-mart) and make sure the copper center wire goes just a hair past the end of the connector.  And for the sake of your signal make sure you are using RG-6 cable not RG-59
