Ubisoft explain that Blacklist will allow gamers to experience a younger Sam Fisher than they encountered in the previous game, Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist had the misfortune of premiering before the jaw-dropping Assassin’s Creed 3 CGI trailer and the mind-blowing Watch Dogs gameplay live demo as well. With those two titles stealing the show, Blacklist was the game that everyone had a hard time remembering, even though it made quite an impression.
Blacklist showed a younger Sam Fisher than the rogue agent on a person mission that gamers saw and grew man crushes on during their experience with Splinter Cell: Conviction. The new game however, will allow gamers to play as more youthful but equally deadly version of the protagonist as the game’s developers seem to want to fill in some of the super stealthy agents missing years.
The demo during the E3 Press Conference showed off the classic Splinter Cell look and feel with Fisher wearing his three-eyed goggles along with his gray uniform in a shout out to the Sam Fisher of old.
According to Ubisoft the game will not be a step backwards in terms of gameplay but is looking to take the game in a new direction as it attempts to appeal to the core fans of the series.
At the same time the studio also confirmed that the game would be released on all current generation platforms including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PCs as well. There has been no word on whether or not the game will be releasing on the Nintendo Wii U, although at this point in time it seems unlikely seeing how Ubisoft made no secret of the games it was working on for Nintendo’s next generation console.
One can expect more news regarding Blacklist in the near future as its, as yet unannounced, release date draws nearer. Analysts are predicting that the game should be hitting shelves by the end of this year but have pegged Q1 2013 as the most likely release date for the game.
But what do readers think about Blacklist; has Ubisoft made the right move and gone back towards the classic Sam Fisher look and feel or did they want more ‘Conviction’? Let us know in the comment section below.
