Split decision gives Martin Kampmann win over Rick Story at UFC 139 – MMA News
Two fighters squared off in the octagonal ring at an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held on November 19, 2011. The UFC 139 marked the Welterweight bout between Danish mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Martin Kampmann and American
fighter Rick Story.
Kampmann won the fight by a split decision. Two judges gave Kampmann 30-27 and 29-28 and one judge gave Story 29-28. Kampmann, the 29-year old fighter was on the losing end since his last two encounters. He lost to Jake Shields
at UFC 121 in October 2010. He later fought Diego Sanchez at the UFC Live event in March 2011 where he was also at the losing end. For Kampmann, who made his Welterweight debut at UFC 93 in January 2009, he had to win the fight against Story to keep his career
alive in the UFC.
Nicknamed Hitman, the Danish fighter was successful in breaking his losing streak when he won the fifteen-minute bout against Story. For Rick Story, often referred as The Horror, came under the burden of losing his second fight
in a row. His last match was at the UFC Live event in June 2011, where he lost to Charlie Brenneman. Both fighters were relentless with their fist attacks and knee shots. They had deep bruises and cuts on their faces which were the result of some raw punches
which they gave in the early parts of the fight. Story dominated the first round but Kampmann proved to be a tough competitor as he controlled the second and third round.
In the last two rounds, Kampmann used his ground game tactics with perfection. He did not give any room to Story to get up and secure a vertical base. Kampmann was holding Story down and giving him punches form time to time.
Making his first appearance into the octagonal UFC ring since March 2011, Kampmann was showing a rather different attitude. His stance was much confident and his style was aggressive backed with controlled shots. He was not swinging
is fists at random but was targeting specific points on Story’s upper body and face. In the third round, Kampmann locked Story in his ground game strategy giving Kampmann a well-deserved win at UFC 139.
