i was playing online poker and the river card was an ace of diamonds making a ace high flush on the board,i had a 10 of spades and a 3 of clubs..so i went all in knowing/thinking? it was going to be a split pot, everyone else folded and when i mentioned to them it was an ace high flush and why did they fold they said because i had a diamond in my hand

(which i didnt)...and i said even if i did have a diamond/higher diamond in my hand it would have still been a split pot, they said i was wrong and would have won with my so called higher diamond card..was i right or wrong?

just curious

  1. you were right

  2. No, you were wrong.  Let's say the board looked like this.  A 10 7 6 2, all diamonds.  If nobody else has a diamond, then this is the best possible hand. Now if you had the 10 of spades and the 3 of diamonds, then YOUR best 5 card hand would be A 10 7 6 3 of diamonds.  It all functions like kickers.  Your lowest card is higher than everybody else's lowest card, so you outkicked them.  Same concept as a pair of A's with a king kicker beats a pair of A's with a queen kicker.
