  1. Practice.

    Warm up 10 minutes or so and spend 20 minutes stretching.

    You can split using your own body weight, or you can use a simple piece of rope around your foot to extend your split.  For a front split some people use a bar much like a ballet dancer does - put your heel on the bar and stretch forward.  As you progress, you can move your "ground" foot back slightly.   Be sure you rotate your toes inward - this will give the maximum stretch to your hamstring and calf.

    In order to advance you need to focus on sustaining the split as far as you can get it for 5 minutes at a time.  Rest and relax the muscle with a quick massage and stretch again.

    DO NOT BOUNCE!  Bouncing can cause muscle tears and injure you.

    You can stretch while watching TV, on the phone, etc.  so it's easy to make time to do this.
