Question:

Splitting up a phone line between use of internet and portable phone?

Here's the situation: I just moved my desktop into the basement and "fed" a phone line down through the upstairs floor into the basement, hooked up my modem and router. Now I come to a problem: There is a phone down here that needs to be hooked up (a portable phone)... don't ask why, I'm not really sure. So my question is: Is it possible to split up one phone line into two (via a line splitter) so that I can have an internet and phone connection at the same time?

I know this was worded rather awkwardly, so if you need any further information just let me know. Thanks again for your time.

  2. If you're using a DSL modem, you should have two jacks on the back of it.  One labeled "Line" and one "Phone".  Plug your phone into the "Phone" jack.  If not, you can get a splitter at any electronics or discount store.

  3. Yeah, a line splitter would work, but you might have some issues with the phone itself, a DSL filter must be involved for both lines.   If you are using dial up, then no, it cant be done.
