  1. Get the chihuahua used to the baby and congrtzzzzzz

  2. i was told to allow the dog to sniff a blanket or article of clothing that the baby used so it can get used to the baby's scent....other than that, set boundaries....get those gates and stuff.

  3. I know exactly what you are going through.  I just had my baby in February of this year but I've had my girl Chihuahua (Bella) for over 3 years...and she is soooooo spoiled!  She is not very friendly at all toward people.  When the baby arrived, we thought she would be mean towards the baby (bite her, growl, etc.) but actually she was extremely friendly to our baby girl.  I don't know what it is but dogs have a 6th sense about babies (especially if they are their owner's babies).  If your chihuahua does act funny around your baby, you need to make sure that you are giving him/her just as much attention as you are the baby (or at least not taking away any of his/her attention for the baby).  I promise everything will turn out fine.  In fact, our Chihuahua is now more friendly toward people than she was before...but you better not grab the baby around her if you want to keep your hands...she bites at people trying to hold the baby.  She's become so protective of her!  Too funny, eh?

  4. Dogs are generally pretty good with babies. When my sister and her baby moved in with me, my very spoiled dog adapted to it quite well. I would recommend you invite some friends with babies over to see what their reactions are. If they do well, great. If not, then consult a dog trainer.

  5. My chihuahua stayed under the bed for two weeks when we brought the baby home. She was not very happy with us at all. We had to set limits though that she was not used to. She didn't  get to sleep with us anymore. We couldn't leave anything of the babies in the floor because the dog would try to take over it. She didn't bother the baby though, she tried to pretend it wasn't there but she did get used her after a while.

  6. Normally, if the person has a familiar scent(which the baby should have being from you), the dog should not hurt him/her.

If you're still leery, start socializing NOW. Take the dog to the park, pet stores, obedience classes, anywhere she can interact with other people or animals.
