My guppy just gave birth, so i got a 2 gallon tank or so for the fry. i have a heater too, but the thing is that i don't have a filter for them, I CAN get a sponge filter from big-als, but i would like to know if Wal-Mart sells sponge filters? Wal-Mart's closer so it's more convenient.

  1. A much better idea would be to take some foam media for filters, cut a slot for  a piece of PVC pipe, and drop an air stone down the pipe.  As the bubbles from the air stone rise, they will create a vacuum behind them that will draw water through the sponge.  This will cost about $5 and will be very effective.

  2. There is really no need to remove the fry to a separate tank.  If you have a well planted tank the fry will hide and the strong ones will survive.  Over time you'll end up with so many you won't be able to get rid of them all.  Even by removing them you will usually lose a large percentage before they reach maturity.
