My parents have been asking me what i want for my birthday, and I've been thinking that it would mean a lot to me to sponsor a child. I need help choosing a reliable organization, age, location ect. I want most of the money (90% or more) to go to the child.

so here are my questions-

Which age would you say is more needy- younger children or teenagers?

What organization should i use? if you have any experience about sponsoring a child, TELL ME! :)

What country? Africa, India, ect??

Answer as many as you can! Links would be great!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. do not

  2. LOL you gotta hear Dane Cooks "15 cents" off the Rough Around the Edges CD. Its hilarious and it came to mind reading your question.

Others thoughts: Get a african kid to sponcer and go for it!!!!

  3. I work closely with an amazing organization called Rising Fountains Development Program in Zambia, Africa. You can visit their website at

    www.risingfountains.org

You can email Mathias Zimba directly (tell him Maria sent you) and he will assign a child to you. They are all precious and very grateful. This is a smaller organization so they don't have as many administrative costs as the larger ones.

    Good luck!

  4. Wow! What a great idea for a birthday present!! I like you already.

I just started sponsoring a child in Uganda thru World Vision. They use 87% of their money directly for the people. I have researched them and found only good. The one thing though you need to realize is that once the child & family are stable & healthy, they may ask you to sponsor someone different. I balked at this at first, then realized I was not sponsoring for me (my ego) and not adopting, but for the child themselves. Then I was okay with it. That said, some sponsors are with the same child for over 10 years. I would research different countries and see which ones I was most needed/interested in. The World Vision site has an easily navigated site where you can chose from any country and child, and even different programs. I have a child in the Hope program, because AIDS has caused such suffering & loss in Africa. (I am in the medical field). Feel free to write to me, I would love it.

  5. Africa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  6. I suggest not sponsoring a child, but instead giving aid to organizations that specifically give what you want to give to the children/cause of your choice with NO overhead costs. One good one is www.nothingbutnets.net

For some of the many reasons you should NOT sponsor a child, see this link. http://danny.oz.au/politics/poverty/chil...

    Good luck!
