Sponsors start preparing bids for electronic advertising rights during London 2012 Olympics
Companies that are looking forward to advertising their products and services on the London 2012 Olympics website have already started to make bids for available spots.
Despite the fact that the sale of advertising space is not going to take place for the next 15 days, companies that want to be most visible in the major international event have already rolled up their sleeves and gotten to work.
It is not only the website for which the bidding is being done, proposals for spots on mobile devices and other digital properties are open for sale. Once the sponsors are successful in getting their space for advertising, they will be able to associate
themselves with the Olympics in the newspapers and photo galleries. Not only that, the sponsors will also have the opportunity to promote themselves in travel information as well as the medal tables. These privileges will be available to the sponsors on the
websites of Olympics and the Paralympics.
The larger sponsors of the London 2012 Olympics will get the first chance to place their bids. The organisers have given sponsors such as Adidas and Coca Cola a set time period during which they will be able to make their purchases before any other sponsors
get a chance to do so.
The organizers of the Olympics have chalked out restrictions for non-sponsors so that they do not use the games as a means to promote their brands without having bid for the rights to do so. Such companies would have to follow guidelines that would strictly
restrict non-sponsors from making any connection with the Olympics during the time that the games will be played.
For instance, companies will not be allowed to use words such as ‘London’ or ‘Games’ during the time that the games will be played unless they are the official sponsors or have taken the license.
This will be the third time that the city of London will be hosting the Olympic Games. The first time was in the 1908 and then later in 1948. The world waits in anticipation as the 2011 Games is fast approaching.
