  1. Motor Mechanic is on the MODL and MODL applications receive priority processing. They also receive additional points for the points test so you are unlikely to have any problems in that area.

457s can be faster if you happen to fit with an employer looking for someone in your field, but you're then at least morally beholden to a particular employer and finding one in the right area is going to be chancy. Also, it's a permanent visa so you become eligible immediately for Medicare and start the countdown towards citizenship (if that's your ultimate objective).

My suggestion is that you apply for a Skilled – Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175)  http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s...

The MODL status gives you priority processing and higher points and you won't have the hassle of needing to find an employer in the right area, which is always more difficult to do from outside Australia.

See the following pages for more info. - don't waste your time or money on an agent. They can't improve your chances and only slow things down.

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s... (the MODL)

http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121... (the Skilled Occupations List - has valuable info. regarding skills recognition)

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s... (the points test)

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm (everything else)

    Good luck!

  2. Australian High Commission. South Africa. High Commission address: 292 Orient Street, Arcadia, Pretoria - Telephone: +27 12 423 6000 - Fax: +27 12 342 8442 ...

    www.southafrica.embassy.gov.au

I would check here first. They should be able to advise you how to qualify for migration to Australia. General info is also available at www.immi.gov.au

Be careful of someone calling themselves a migration attorney, the iimi.gov.au site warns you that you should only use registered migration agents. (Note: migration agents cannot make your chances of entry greater but they can advise you of how to go about the process correctly). The High Commission in Pretoria should be able to advise you if there are any in South Africa.

I would imagine you will need sponsorship. Get your relatives in Brisbane to search out prospective employers to sponsor you. Why not check also if Ford or other car companies in SAfrica can help you with contacts.
