Sporting Braga boss Domingos Paciencia aiming to win UEFA Europa League
Sporting Braga manager Domingos Paciencia has set his sights on winning the UEFA Europa League in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
The manager was delighted with his side’s win over Dynamo Kiev and heaped praise on all of his players for an impressive performance against the Ukrainian giants.
Sporting Braga finished 0-0 against Dynamo Kiev at the AXA Stadium and hence progressed on the away goals rule after a 1-1 result in the first leg in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032, setting up an all-Portuguese clash against Benfica in the semi-finals.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the last 16 fixture of the competition and have had
a tremendous European campaign this term.
“We will face Benfica. It will be a balanced game but anything can happen. We have defeated Arsenal, Liverpool, Sevilla and now Dynamo Kiev, so anything can happen. With the desire that this team has, it can go far. As things stand, we believe that anything
is possible,” the manager was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician was all praise for his team’s impressive performance at home against Kiev. He said that the players played with great determination and were able to hold the Ukrainian club in the match.
The manager insisted that Braga had more chances than their opponents to win the game but they could not capitalise on them.
“The players were magnificent, they showed great spirit and sacrificed a lot too. [Despite a man down] We ended up being the team with more chances to win the game. Even with ten players, we were very organised. I am proud, this achievement gives us great
satisfaction,” concluded the 42-year-old manager.
Sporting Braga have excelled in the UEFA Europa League this season but their performances in the Portuguese Superliga have been somewhat dismal.
They are currently third on the League table with 43 points and are a staggering 31 points behind the leaders FC Porto.
