The struggling La Liga outfit announced that Javier Clemente will take charge of first team affairs as Sporting embark on a new era under the 61-year-old.
El Molinon-based club parted company with manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Preciado after a poor start to the season. Los Rojiblancos are 19th in La Liga standings, having accumulated a paltry 19 points from their 22 league matches.
Despite his ousting, the 54-year-old is still held in high-regard, a fact evident from the emotional speech made by the club president, Manuel Vega-Arango.
"They maybe the same thing, but I refuse to call this a termination or dismissal. I call it a change on the bench," he stated.
"It's very difficult and painful to make these decisions."
After a fortnight of struggle to find a suitable replacement, Sporting Gijon finally found the appointment of Javier Clemente as the best option at hand.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Serbia-c3002 national team coach will take over the reins of Los Rojiblancos from caretaker Inaki Tejada and will be officially presented at El Molinon's press room on Tuesday.
Clemente has been handed a contract which will expire at the end of the current season.
The former Athletic Bilbao player has a tough assignment on his hands, with Sporting deeply rooted in relegation slots, 4 points adrift from the safe-zone. Clemente will have to shakeup the first team and make do with the little sources he has at his
hands to get the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 done in the remaining fixtures.
In their 22 La Liga fixtures thus far, they have scored a paltry 20 goals and conceded 43. Sporting currently have the worst defensive record and this has led to a shambolic goal-difference of -23.
Clemente’s first assignment at the helm of Sporting Gijon will come against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Simeone’s rejuvenated Atletico Madrid on February 19th. El Molinon has been a fortress for visiting teams in the past and the former Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol
manager will hope it lives up to its reputation.
