Sporting Kansas City 3-1 Portland Timbers: defeat against former team for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Jewsbury-c17457 - MLS News
Portland Timbers failed to avoid defeat yet again in the Major League soccer. The 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City might not have been a shock or a special occasion for the team, but for Jack Jewsbury this was the first time the player took on his former
team.
The Wizards severed the Timbers defence in a clinical 3-1 win and it could not have been more embarrassing for Jewsbury than to lose in front of his family and friends.
Before joining hands with the Timbers this Major League Soccer season, the midfielder was a part of Sporting Kansas City (formerly known as the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kansas-City-Wizards-c39666). He spent 8 years with the team but was asked to pack his bag and head for the north-western
side of the country.
The Timbers head coach John Spencer said otherwise. “Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes didn’t want to lose him,” he said. “We were delighted to get him. It was one of the best trade pickups in the league this year.”
Having grown up in the nearby Springfield, the player could not expect himself to visit the Sporting’s new ground, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, in an outsider’s capacity. However, the player praised the management for their efforts.
“I was excited," Jewsbury said. "It was the first time I’ve come back to play in the new stadium, so I was excited to see the final product because I’ve been here so long playing at different venues."
The team had been without a home venue since the LIVESTRONG Sporting Park project got underway.
The new ground and turf have proven to be a blessing and the team has been a totally different club since May 18. From being bottom of the Eastern conference, the outfit has risen to the third spot on the table.
On the other hand, Portland have found a rough patch in their first MLS season and despite getting off to a good start at Jeld-Wen Field, the head coach cuts a worried figure.
Three of the last four away games have been losses and chances of making it to the playoffs grow thinner with each passing round.
