Sporting Kansas City languish despite 6-match undefeated streak in the Eastern Conference – MLS News
Despite being undefeated since May 21, 2011, Major League Soccer franchise, Sporting Kansas City, have been struggling at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The problem lies in the lack of points away from home, where KC could be found for most of the first half of the season.
The pattern continued in the midweek match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philadelphia-Union-c40231 at PPL Park, where the team struggled for possession but eventually sneaked out with a scoreless draw. Though the team extended the undefeated streak to six games, the outfit remains unmoved at the 9th position.
However, head coach Peter Vermes was excited about the crucial one point. “It’s a huge point for us,” Vermes said. “From the perspective of the number of games that we are going through right now and the guys that are out, it’s a huge, huge point. Hopefully, we reserved some energy for Saturday night. That’s the key here.”
The Wizards put up a decent show in front of the away crowd despite missing the services of Aurelien Collin and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Dallas-c39095.
However, the performance was not good enough for the team to add any goals to the score line. The Union had a strong offence with all hands onboard, but the Sporting matched htem equally in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904.
This was surely a contest between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jimmy-Nielsen-c18573 in the Sporting goal. The goalkeeper, however, passed the test with flying colours.
However, the Zolos dominated hugely in shots on goal. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 27.
With an unusual strategy toward the match, Vermes’ men entered the PPL Park with a draw on their minds.
“There have been plenty of teams over the years that have taken a point or three from our place because they sat back and countered,” the coach elaborated on the performance after the match. “A part of our game plan tonight was to do some of that based on our travel and having to go back home and play again on Saturday night.”
Whether Vermes guides his men in the same manner as he did against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Jose-Earthquakes-c40434, where his men beat the Quakes at Livestrong Sporting Park for the first time, is anybody's guess. However, the team desperately needs some victories on the trot to have any chances of making it to the playoffs this time around.
