Sporting Kansas City’s CJ Sapong eyes playoffs as the perfect closure to his maiden season – MLS News
CJ Sapong’s maiden Major League Soccer season with Sporting Kansas City is only one match away from its completion. The forward had a superb year with his flamboyant performances helping him to the nomination for the 2011 Rookie of the Year award.
The Sporting captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Davy-Arnaud-c10698 supported his young forward for the Rookie award.
“C.J. has been outstanding in every single game. In my mind, I don’t think there is any question about who the Rookie of the Year is, to be honest with you,” Arnaud said.
Arnaud might be biased in his support to the youngster given that both players are teammates but Sapong has put a strong shift in the current season with his form levitating in every game. The rookie has netted 5 goals and notched as many assists to give
a tough time to his counterparts in the award contention.
The player played all 33 games for the Wizards, owing to his good performance. He has been in rich vein of form since the start and has been a major cog in the Sporting’s machine that came atop the Eastern Conference.
Sapong started a whopping 22 games and came off the bench in other 11 but his performance and health had been consistent during that time.
The player, who was drafted by the Wiz as the 10th pick in 2011 SuperDraft, did not have many expectations in his maiden season. However, his performance in the 2011 term has boosted up his confidence and he plans to develop his technical skills
for the next season.
“I’ve already surpassed my individual goals,” Sapong said, “which were just to have an impact and at least score a professional goal. I knew it would be a long road, but I’ve come a long way. It’s just more motivation to do as much as I can.”
Sporting’s MLS campaign is not over yet. The team is scheduled for the last regular season outing at RFK Stadium against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901. Moreover, they have also proceeded to the playoffs after three years and Sapong hopes to make his first playoffs a memorable
postseason.
