Sporting Lisbon 2-1 Juventus: Yannick Djalo brace sinks the Old Lady
Juventus FC took on Sporting Lisbon in the World Football Challenge and failed to impress in their first preseason outing, losing the game 2-1 at BMO Field, Toronto.
The game started with Juventus being the stronger team on the field. The Bianconeri produced a couple of early chances and the shots went on target, however, the attempts were not good enough to find the back of the net.
The Sportinguistas earned a corner kick in the 13th minute. Onyewu headed the initial delivery towards striker Yannick Djalo, who fired a right footed shot from close range into the back of the net, giving Sporting an early lead.
The game was then dominated equally by both sides with quality football on display. However, the Leones forward Yannick doubled his tally by sprinting past Juve’s defence in the 36th minute and fed the ball into the bottom right corner of the
goal post with a left-footed shot.
Juve went close to scoring their first goal in the final minute of the first half when Milos Krasic found http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Claudio-Marchisio-c9312 with a cross. However, Marchisio’s header missed the left post and a Sporting goal kick ensued.
The second half started with Juventus in a two-goal deficit and a number of substitutions were made. Antonio Conte replaced the likes of Andrea Pirlo, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833 for fresh legs. The Lady Killers played
a good aggressive second half but their efforts were in vain.
However, in the 80th minute, Juve legend http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 and Del Piero produced a stunning chip to send the spectators into raptures. The goal gave Juve some hope of a comeback and they created
one last chance in the final minute of the game, but the Leones defence stood firm.
The match concluded with the final score at 2-1. Antonio Conte started his latest managerial journey with a defeat. Onyewu, the injury plagued defender, was the highlight of the game as he assisted the first goal while also marking his position strongly
during the match.
Juventus were slow and lethargic at the back and Antonio Conte might be thinking of adding quality players to his defence line.
